Phiona Mutesi: Chess Prodigy

Phiona Mutesi, is a 14-year-old chess prodigy. Mutesi lives in the slums of Kampala, Uganda and is just now learning to read. A naturally talented chess player her instincts have made her a player to watch in international chess. Mutesi, is coached by Robert Katende of Sports Outreach Ministry. When not playing chess her days are spent in search of food, working at the market with her mother and dreaming of an escape from the slum. This is an uplifting story about an amazing young woman told with warmth and heart by Stephanie Sinclair.
